Today I have assembled a selection of bronzes for you. Every piece here save the last was recovered in the early 20th century from a ship that went down off the Tunisian coast around 80–60 BC—the celebrated Mahdia wreck—carrying Greek works of art to Rome from the Athens that Sulla had sacked. As Horace wrote in his epistle to Augustus:
Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit et artes intulit agresti Latio.
